Die neuen WLAN-Standards \u00fcberragen ihre Vorg\u00e4nger in Bezug auf Datenrate und\/ oder Reichweite meist bei weitem. Entsprechend war die Abk\u00fcrzung IEEE lange Zeit fester Bestandteil bei der Namensgebung neuer Netzwerkstandards. Um Verwirrungen bei Verbraucher:innen vorzubeugen, wurden die Bezeichnungen allerdings vereinfacht. Als realistisch in der Praxis gilt wiederum ein etwas niedriger Wert zwischen 30 und 40 Gbit\/s. Also immer noch extrem hohe Datenraten.
